Peoples Trust is proud to announce its 20th annual Scholarship Essay Contest
Members between 17-25 years old, and named primary owner of a PTCU account, are eligible to participate in this year's contest. If you plan to attend college in the 2010-2011 school year, and meet all of the rules outlined on the application, you are invited to submit an essay for this year's contest.
A total of $20,000 is
scheduled to be awarded:
Four (4) $1,500 scholarships, twelve (12) $1,000 scholarships
and
One (1) $2,000 Rose Hubbard Memorial Scholarship
winner.
Essays should be approximately 400 words long. The essay topic for this year's contest is:
What do you consider the single most
important problem in society today?
Why? How can it be resolved?
All entries must be postmarked by no later than May 28th, 2010, or received electronically by June 4th and must include a COMPLETE application.* Any entry not meeting these requirements, or any other contest rule, will be disqualified.
* Note - If you wish to submit your entry electronically, simply include all of the application information in an email, and attach your essay file. We prefer MS Word format, but can also accept Write, or copy your essay into the email text body.
There will be no awards banquet this year. Rather, the winners will be invited to the credit union for h'or d'oeuvres and to meet our Board of Directors and management on Wednesday, July 28. In addition, the total of scholarship awards have increased from $13,000 to $20,000 this year. Winners will be announced by July 2nd, 2010.

To help assure unbiased judging of the essays, all entries should be anonymous of author. Any reference within the essay that might identify its author will be edited out. This includes the name of the school you are/will be attending.

Official Rules
- The student applying for the scholarship must be the primary member on an account at Peoples Trust Credit Union, and the student must be between 17 - 25 years old in 2010.
- The scholarship will be awarded based upon submission of an essay of approximately 400 words on this year's topic.
- Only one entry per member
- Essays will be judged upon content, originality, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Winners will be announced by July 2nd, 2010.
- Before receiving scholarship funds, winners must provide the credit union with a letter from the registrar's office of an accredited college, university, or community college verifying that they are enrolled for the 2010-2011 school year. Note: this information is not required when submitting essay, and only applies after winning a scholarship.
- Scholarship awards will be deposited directly to the winner's credit union account upon receipt of the registrar's letter. Alternatively, scholarships may be sent directly to the college or university to be credited to the student's registration account, in which case proof of enrollment is not required.
- The decision of the judges will be final.
- PTCU employees, official family and members of their families are not eligible for the scholarship program.
- The essay and application must be received electronically by Noon on June 4th, 2010 or must be postmarked by no later than May 28th.
